THE MISSION FOOD PROGRAM

Welcome to the Mission Food Program, where we are committed to combating food insecurity and hunger in Carroll County and beyond. As the largest redistributor of food in the area, we partner with dozens of local agencies and charities to ensure that nutritious food reaches those who need it most.

Our Mission and Impact

In 2023, the Mission Food Program supplied over 1,000,000 pounds of food to our community, equivalent to more than 800,000 meals. Each month, we feed an average of 4,800 families, making a tangible difference in the lives of thousands.

How the Mission Food Program Works

Here at the Westminster Rescue Mission, the Mission Food Program sources high-quality, nutritious food from farms, restaurants, stores, the Maryland Food Bank, and other partners. We then redistribute this food to pantries, soup kitchens, non-profit organizations, and agencies across the county, ensuring that it reaches the towns and neighborhoods where it is needed most.

As one of only six redistribution partners of the Maryland Food Bank in the entire state, we not only put food on shelves but also work closely with our downstream partners to ensure food safety and educate staff and volunteers on the best combinations of nutritious foods to distribute to our hungry neighbors.

Participate and Support

The Mission Food Program thrives on community involvement. Whether you're a business, organization, or individual, there are many ways to support our mission:

Volunteer: Your time and effort can help us distribute food more efficiently and reach more families.

Donate: Financial contributions enable us to purchase and distribute more food, while donations of food from farms, processors, and wholesalers keep our shelves stocked with nutritious options.

Host a Food Drive: By organizing a food drive, you can directly impact the lives of families in your community. Use our Food Drive Toolkit to get started.

MISSION FOOD PROGRAM RESOURCES & PROGRAMS

Plates of Plenty

Plates of Plenty is a campaign to raise awareness and funds to combat hunger in Carroll County. Proceeds help the Mission Food Program at Westminster Rescue Mission purchase and distribute essential food items to local pantries, soup kitchens, and charities. Despite Carroll County's wealth, many families struggle to make ends meet, particularly in rural areas and among those living paycheck to paycheck. In July 2024, partner restaurants will offer diners the opportunity to add a "Plate of Plenty" donation to their bill, directly supporting our mission.

Feeding Carroll Together

This countywide campaign encourages food drives to support local pantries, especially during the summer when children who rely on school meals face increased hunger.
