November 2025: Response to Food Crisis

NEW - 2025.11.11 - Maryland Issuing Partial SNAP Benefits

The Mission Food Program at the Westminster Rescue Mission is closely monitoring the news and the updates from the federal and state government about the impacts of the federal government shutdown, and particularly the funds related to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). We will continue to work with our upstream and downstream partners to maximize to the best of our ability the amount of food distributed to our partner pantries to meet the increased demand. When the federal government reopens, we expect to see delays and ripple effects among SNAP recipients facing other financial demands with the onset of cold weather and the approaching holidays. The rollout of new restrictions on SNAP recipients signed into law on July 4, 2025, also will impact the demand at food pantries.

What is the Mission doing to help the community?

The Mission Food Program at the Westminster Rescue Mission has been a leading force in addressing food insecurity in Carroll County for several years.

  • Working with and through the Maryland Food Bank, the Mission has secured emergency funds and is purchasing additional food that will help stock the shelves of our downstream pantry partners across Carroll County.
  • Our Free Food Resource Guide has become the go-to resource for county agencies and non-profit organizations supporting our neighbors as they struggle to feed their families.
